The official teaser trailer for Marvel Studios and Sony’s ‘Spider-Man: No Way Home’ garnered 355.5 million global views within 24 hours of its release, officially breaking the record of Avengers: Endgame in 2018, which garnered 289 million views.
The teaser was released on August 24, Tuesday at CinemaCon, and received 4.5 million mentions across various social media platforms. No Way Home is the third installment to the current Spider-Man franchise set in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. In contrast, the No Way Home trailer gathered twice as much viewership as its predecessors Homecoming and Far From Home within the first 24 hours of their release.
The trailer features some of the original villains cast in 2004’s Spider-Man 2, such as Alfred Molina’s Doctor Octopus and Willem Dafoe's Green Goblin, which added to the excitement of loyal Spider-Man fans. In addition, easter eggs featuring Jaimie Foxx’s Electro, Rhys Ifans’ Lizard, and Thomas Haden Church’s Sandman teasing the multiversal version of the Sinister Six can be found in the teaser. There are also speculations that Tobey Macguire, the ‘original’ Spider-Man in the first rendition of the film franchise, and Andrew Garfield, from The Amazing Spider-Man franchise, might also appear in the movie.
The release coincided with the recent ending of the Disney+ series WandaVision last March and the recently-concluded series Loki. The excitement of fans gathered around the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) as a new addition to the multiverse plan promises to answer some questions in the previous installments as well as bring up new ones.
Furthermore, Sony is expected to deliver its eighth installment in Sony's Spider-Man Universe (formerly known as Sony Pictures Universe of Marvel Characters), counting the earlier films they made before. The multiverse of the MCU franchise continues to weave the storyline of its characters as well as its productions, gaining the attention of many viewers for this enormous undertaking.
Spider-Man: No Way Home premieres exclusively in cinemas on December 17.
