President Rodrigo Duterte has formally lifted the use of face shields to some areas as recommended by the Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases (IATF-EID) last Monday, November 15, 2021.
In a memorandum of President Duterte signed by his executive secretary Salvador Medialdea, people residing in areas under Alert Level 1 to Alert Level 3 are no longer required to wear face shields when going to public places.
However, as stated in the memorandum, face shields among locations under Alert Level 5 and granular lockdowns are still mandatory. Medical personnel working in medical establishments are also required to wear face shields.
On the other hand, face shields under Alert Level 4 are already under the jurisdiction of the Local Government Units (LGUs) and private establishments.
Moreover, President Duterte clarified that face masks are still mandatory despite lifting the mandatory use of face shields.
He also reminded the public to strictly follow the health and safety protocols as the country continuous to see a downfall thread of the positivity rate of the COVID-19.
“You have to obey what the government will tell you to do because it’s for the good of the country and you. Sumunod lang kayo,” according to the President.
At this moment, the memorandum immediately took effect as some public establishments and transportations like the MRT and LRT no longer require face shields.
The Metro Manila is currently under Alert Level 2.
