The new Netflix series, Squid Game, has reached no. 1 in US Netflix and Netflix Philippines. According to the analytics website, FlixPatrol, the series became popular, that it made it to number 1 on the Top 10 shows on Netflix last September 21.
Squid Game was written and directed by Hwang Dong-Hyuk. The series was all about a survival game wherein 456 contestants were to play games from their childhood. The winner takes home a grand prize of 45.6 billion won, while those who will lose will be eliminated.
The story of the series was about a survival game that included a lot of plot twists that surprised the viewers. What made the show even more successful was the casting of the characters. Features Park Hae-soo from Quantum Physics, Heo Sung-Tae from Reply 1994, Wi Ha-Jun from Gonjiam: Haunted Asylum, and lastly, Chris Chan, a Filipino actor and teacher from South Korea. Filipino viewers felt the pride of being a Filipino when they found that a Filipino was one of the characters/players of the series, which caused the show to gain more viewers from the country itself.
Although Squid Game had only nine episodes and was released last September 17, viewers are already asking if there will be a second season. Since the series became popular in different countries around the world, there is no doubt that given the amount of talk it caused on social media, there is still no definitive information regarding the next season of Squid Game.
