Malacañang expressed confidence in targeting at least 50% of the Metro Manila population to receive vaccination against Covid-19 by August 20, which is the end of the Enhanced Community Quarantine (ECQ) period in the Metro.
The rising number of Covid-19 cases has reached 14,000 as of Monday, Aug. 16. Moreover, with the continuous spread of the highly contagious Delta variant, the government aims to achieve at least half of the Metro Manila residents to receive vaccine jabs.
At a news conference on Monday, presidential spokesman, Harry Roque, provided an update on the current immunization situation in Metro Manila concerning the 4 million doses of Covid-19 vaccinations distributed to the region.
As reported, 230,000 individuals were vaccinated, which is away from the assumed 250,000 target vaccination recipients.
Roque positively remarked on this data despite the backlog experienced.
Following the enforcement of ECQ in NCR until August 20, Palace assured that vaccination will not be halted through strict protocol compliance must be exercised.
In the recent update from Health Secretary Francisco Duque III, he confirmed that NCR moves closer to achieving herd immunity.
Currently, NCR has vaccinated almost 40% of its population. Metro Manila expects 10 million of its residents to be vaccinated before the region confirms herd immunity.
According to government data, the number of wholly vaccinated Filipinos nationwide is at least 12 million, well short of the 76.3 million targets for achieving herd immunity against Covid-19 by the end of the year.
As this unfolded, Roque stated that people should not seek booster injections due to the low Covid-19 vaccine supply and should wait for population protection before seeking booster vaccinations.
